What is happening?

When you contact me, include when the problem started and how much of your home is affected.

A light will not switch on

Is it one fitting or all the lights in the room? Mention anything you noticed before it stopped working.

A flickering light

Let me know whether it has a dimmer and when the flickering happens. I'll check the fitting and its connection.

A broken light switch

Tell me which light it controls and whether the switch is loose or damaged. The wiring needs checking as well as the switch itself.

A stuck bathroom pull cord

Please say whether it controls the light or the electric shower, because those jobs need different switches.

During the visit

What the work involves

The existing wiring affects what can be done. I'll check it and explain the work before you agree to it.

The fitting and its switch are checked first, with circuit testing if the fault needs further investigation.

I'll tell you which part needs repairing or replacing and what it will cost.

Afterwards, I check that the light and its control work properly.

Heat, scorching, burning smells or crackling?

Stop using the affected fitting and contact an electrician. Keep covers closed and do not touch the wiring when taking a photo.

Yes. Let me know whether it controls the bathroom light or the shower.

Can you investigate flickering lights?

Yes. It helps to know whether one light is affected and whether the flickering starts when another appliance switches on.

What if the light fitting cannot be repaired?

It may need replacing. Send me a photo and the model details, if you have them, and we can discuss the options.
